ANXIETY
INDIVIDUAL & GROUP COUNSELING
Anxiety is a normal
human experience. As
we journey through
life, there are many
important life events,
both good and bad, that cause varying amounts of anxiety. In fact, it is considered a beneficial response in certain dangerous situations
that trigger the anxiety.
Anxiety manifests itself physically in forms of headache, perspiration, tightness in the chest, heart palpitations, mild stomach discomfort, and restlessness. Virtually every human can relate to these symptoms because everyone has experienced anxiety
at one time or another.
While ifs pretty clear to see that anxiety is normal and even beneficial, for many people it becomes a problem. The main difference between normal anxiety and disordered anxiety is in the source and intensity of the experience as well as how much it affects your daily living. Disordered anxiety, on the other hand, tends to be chronic, irrational and interferes with many life functions. Avoidance behavior, incessant worry, difficulty concentrating, and memory problems are all signs that the anxiety you are experiencing is unhealthy. When these things begin affecting your family, work and social life it's time to make a change.
